NFL Betting: Vikings Injuries Could Pave The Way For Jaguars Win

Not much is expected of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2012 season but who cares about preseason predictions anyways. Most of them turn out wrong.

The Jags could turn some of those predicting pundits on their head with a win Week 1 in Minnesota against a Vikings team that is also rebuilding their NFL odds.

Both squads are young and are in search of confidence. That means a win in this spot could be vital optimism, confidence and momentum seems to snowball. The good news is that some key injuries could hamper the Vikings chances on Sunday, which might just allow the Jags to go on the road and steal one.

Betting Line: Vikings -4

The Vikings will play Week 1 without the full services of two of their best playmakers, which could really hamper them on offense. Running back Adrian Peterson is still recovering from shredding his knee late last season and while he’s a game-time decision, he’s going to be used sparingly at best – and that’s if he does play.

Secondly, the Vikings biggest offseason signing was wide receiver Jerome Simpson but he’s suspended for the contest. Last season, the Vikings were hampered in the passing game when opponents double-teamed and the acquisition of Simpson was meant to keep defenses honest. That won’t be the case in Week 1 as the Jags will be able to shade their coverage towards Harvin and not worry about the likes of Michael Jenkins or Stephen Burton beating them.

With Maurice Jones-Drew back in the fold and a good offseason from Blaine Gabbert, the Jags just might be in good position to get this win. That would mean a lot to this young team, new coaching staff and most importantly, Gabbert.
